Makkah, Saudi Arabia

Makkah, one of the holiest cities in Islam, has a rich history starting in pre-Islamic times as a trade and religious center. It was the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad in 570 CE, and it was in Makkah that he received the first revelations of Islam. After facing persecution, Muhammad and his followers migrated to Medina but returned to Makkah in 630 CE, where they peacefully took control of the city and dedicated the Kaaba solely to the worship of Allah. Over the centuries, Makkah became the spiritual center of Islam, hosting millions of pilgrims annually for the Hajj pilgrimage. Today, as part of Saudi Arabia, Makkah is a bustling religious hub, with the Masjid al-Haram and the Kaaba remaining central to Islamic practice.
